Funnyman Conan O’Brien will take his show on the road, literally. While he is off the airwaves due to his recent contract troubles with former employer NBC, he wants to keep the spirit alive with a live theater show.
The former host of “The Tonight Show” announced a 30-city theater tour on Thursday. Sidekick Andy Richter and the former “Tonight Show” band will join O’Brien for what he promises to be “a night of music, comedy, hugging and the occasional awkward silence.”
The “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour” begins April 12 in Eugene, Ore., and concludes June 14 in Atlanta.
I actually can’t wait for this. While I am not a huge theater guy, I would be interested in checking this one out. I think Conan is very funny and it’s a real shame what happened to him. I can’t understand how he didn’t do well in the 11:35PM slot. People seem to think he skews to a young crowd, but I really can’t see why. Sure, he’s kinda nerd-hip, but he’s just funny. Plain and simple. Given his recent Twitter success, I’m sure this will be a huge, sold-out success. (Full Yahoo Story)
Speaking of Twitter and Conan…did you see what he did with his recently opened account. Even this is pretty funny. Conan decided that he would follow one, lone person, randomly. That’s good. That person then went from having 3 followers to having over 26,000! How great is that, really? She’s now apparently getting loads of help with her wedding and is trying to cope with her 15 minutes. (ABC News)
“I’ve decided to follow someone at random,” O’Brien’s posting read at 3:55 p.m. on Friday. “She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change.”
Boy, did it ever.
Immediately after O’Brien started following her, Killen — whose Twitter handle is “LovelyButton” — picked up followers at a rate of 150 per minute.
To top it all off…this woman and her fiance apperently have asked Conan to be the best man. All I can hope for now is that Conan actually does it. That would be classic stuff. (Good Morning America, ABC)
