It fall, baby, my favorite season. The chill, the leaves, the beers. It’s the most wonderful time of the year (sorry Andy Williams). It’s time for some heartier clothing and some heartier drinking. You can’t have pumpkin ales in July! C’mon, man!
I went to the distributer and came away with not one or two but three awesome brews. The first is Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.’s Leaf Pile Ale. It’s described as an autumn ale which brings you a slice of pumpkin pie in a glass. Fresh whole ginger, cinnamon, all spice, and nutmeg gives this ale its distinct character. Fall in. (5.2% ABV). I have to say…I really love this beer. It’s all out fall feelings without going too far. It’s one of my favorite beers and I love Greenport’s bottle design. This is a home run and a must try. Get it while you can.
The second beer is another great one. Blue Point Brewing Company’s Pumpkin Ale is pretty much what you want when you get a pumpkin ale. Period. It’s described as a golden orange-colored Pumpkin Ale brewed with real pumpkin and spices to produce a delicious taste of fall. (ABV: 5.5% IBU: 26 OG: 1.061). This is another seasonal gem. I really don’t know which I like better…this or the Leaf Pile.
Finally, we have a beer that’s a little more well-known and widely available. The big daddy of craft beer, and now the largest American-owned beer company, Samuel Adams and their Octoberfest. This time…in a can. Sam Adams Octoberfest is one of the best Octoberfest beers I’ve had. It’s classic in style and body and described as their version of this classic style blends hearty malts for a deep, smooth flavor with notes of caramel creating a brew that’s perfect for the season, or whatever you’re celebrating.
