If you’ve been married or in a long-term relationship you have probably taken a trip of two with your significant other. It’s always a good time, filled with laughs and merry making. It’s great for the soul and for the relationship. As good as it always is, I would bet the farm that for most of you, the woman is the one making all the plans, getting really involved and getting it all done. Who knows why that is? Do you know why that is? If you do, feel free to leave a comment because that would be some sweet information to get a hold of. But I digress.
If you are a man in a relationship, maybe it’s the right time for you to step up your game and take a deeper interest in the vacation/trip/weekend/throw pillow planning. No, no. I kid. Let her take care of the pillows. You’re much better off. But the planning of the next trip… I think it’s all you, buddy. I think you have it in you. I think you could do a bang up job. I think you can become a true Travel MANager and I think your lady with love you for it.
What is a Travel MANager you say? Well, silly, it’s pretty much just what it sounds like it is. It’s a real-life man, like you and me, making plans for an actual trip to be taken with their lady friend. Yes, it may sound simple enough, but it’s a pretty big deal. It’s a game changer. It’s the Curry 3 pointer or the Brady 2 minute offense. You could be a hero, man. Just think about the possibilities.
Now that you’re all jazzed up with nowhere to go, it’s time to start thinking of the trip. First order of business as Travel MANager will be simple. I want you to become a Weekend Escape Artist. You heard that right. Start off simple and easy. Make sure there’s a couple of days clear on a random weekend (it’s more impactful when the trip is for no reason whatsoever I think) and get to planning. Take that woman away. You know you both need a little break from the stresses of daily life. The short, surprise weekend is the money shot. If done right, it could be a real game changer, lad. So put on your travel planning and let’s talk about it.
One of my favorite hotel chains to take quick getaways with has to be Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites by Hilton.
Homewood Suites by Hilton is awesome with great accommodations and amenities like one and two bedroom suites with a full kitchen and free hot breakfast daily. To top it off…free Wi-Fi and business center, which is a big plus for us. Home2 Suites by Hilton is just as awesome, but with a little different vibe. Same great suites and amenities but with a more eco-friendly mindset designed for savvy, yet cost-conscious travelers. Free wi-fi, too. Bingo boingo.
Where do you want to go? This is obviously an absolutely critical part of the trip. I mean, it IS the trip. Make the destination all about your lady. Where would she like to go, what would she like to do and see? Somewhere warm like Miami, FL? Maybe somewhere romantic and historic like Savannah, GA or Charleston, SC? How about hitting the great outdoors in Jackson Hole, WY? Laguna Beach, CA? Time Square in New York City? The list is endless, so what is it you and your significant other like to do? So far, as much as we love certain places, we are still people that love to see new places. I am seriously considering Jackson Hole for my next trip. How sick would that be. But if we are talking about being a Weekend Escape Artist…you probably want to hit a place that’s within a couple hours of your home, right? Quick, easy, get the most from the short amount of time you have there. Pack it all in…or do nothing at all. It’s your call and it’s up to you.
I think a big part of the perfect Weekend Escape Artist plan will be the hotel and it’s costs. Sure, you could spend a ton on the lodging, But why? Life is all about experiences, no? Yes, sometimes chilling in the room is warranted and needed, but it shouldn’t be the bulk of the vacation budget. I say don’t spend a lot of get there (go close) and don’t over spend on the room. Spend your time with your spouse or girlfriend and don’t worry about the rest. Get away and make magic happen, people. Memories are to be made.
Well, that’s what I’ve been thinking about lately. Have you been thinking about this at all? Probably not, but maybe it’s time. With work, the kids, and who knows what else, there never seems to be time to take a break, to breathe a little, to enjoy each other’s company. The time has come. It’s about to get real.
I’ll be writing soon about my plans and where I’ll be going away with Vera. It’s a secret, so don’t go blabbing around town either. I’ll also be talking about how awesome Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites by Hilton is, so be prepared. It’ll be sweet. Hopefully it’ll inspire you to become a Travel MANager, too. Stay tuned.
