We are knee-deep into football season. The games are fun. So is the fantasy football. I even set my son and his friends up this year with teams and they love it, too! From NFL to college, watching the game just feels right, bringing family and friends together to enjoy it and time with each other.

When everyone hanging and sitting around the tube, there is something that always holds a very special place in everyone’s heart, isn’t there? I think you know what I’m talking about. It’s what brings the hardcore fans and the ultra casual fans together. What makes all of these homegating parties such a good time? Well, it’s food and drink, of course. But you already knew that, didn’t you?

When we host people at the house to watch the game, we really try to focus on delicious foods that we know everyone will like. Sweet, spicy, salty – all important. Easy to prepare is also important to Vera and I, since we want to spend as much time with our guests as possible. Since I’m sure you have some football watching to do, I wanted to share two of my favorite, simple, protein-packed snacks to make a center of your day. These homegating food hacks will keep you watching the game longer and spend less time in the kitchen. I think that would be called a win-win.

When I’m getting ready for a game, there’s a lot to buy. Beer, wine, fruit, dessert. I also always look for something that’s pretty simple that I can ” Heat & Eat.” I always make a trip to Sam’s Club to pick up some goodies like Ball Park® Franks and Tyson® Buffalo Style Boneless Chicken Wyngz. You can heat and eat straight up since they are so good, but I like to mix it up a bit. How about some Memphis-syle BBQ Cornmeal Dog Cakes? Or maybe some Buffalo Chicken Nachos?! Here are the recipes:

Buffalo Chicken Nachos

What You Need

  • Tyson Buffalo Style Boneless Chicken Wyngz
  • Tortilla chips (love spicy or lime-flavored)
  • Salsa (I prefer chunky and spicy)
  • Sour cream
  • Black olives (sliced)
  • Limes
  • Shredded cheese (I prefer sharp cheddar)
  • Green bell peppers
  • Guacamole
  • Lettuce (shredded)
  • Cookie/baking tray

What You Need To Do

  1. Get a baking pan or tray
  2. Line the pan with chips – don’t leave any uncovered areas
  3. Layer on a good amount of cheese
  4. Add the toppings you love the most – I added salsa, guacamole, and Tyson Buffalo Style Boneless Chicken Wyngz
  5. Add another layer of chips making sure everything is covered once again
  6. Add more cheese and your final layer of toppings to be cooked – I added salsa, guacamole, diced green bell peppers, black olives, lime juice, and Tyson Buffalo Style Boneless Chicken Wyngz
  7. Cook the nachos on 375 for 20 minutes to make sure the chicken is cooked and the cheese is melted
  8. If all looks like how you like it, remove the tray and add the lettuce and sour cream
  9. Serve immediately!

Memphis-syle BBQ Cornmeal Dog Cakes

What You Need

  • Ball Park® Franks (6)
  • Corn muffin mix
  • Egg
  • Half and Half
  • BBQ sauce (I prefer Memphis-style)
  • Olive Oil cooking/baking spray
  • Cupcake pan

What You Need To Do

  1. Grab a cupcake pan and spray it with cooking/baking spray – I prefer Olive Oil spray
  2. Create the corn muffin mix – the one I used required mixing an egg, 1/3 cup of milk (I used half and half), and a box of mix for 6 to 8 muffins, so I doubled everything to make 12
  3. Break the six hot dogs in half and cook – I decided to pan fry mine until golden brown
  4. Pour the muffin mix in the pan
  5. Once the hot dogs are ready, place each half dog in the middle of each cake section, pushing it down do that most of the hot dog is in the mix
  6. Bake on 400 degrees for 15 minutes
  7. If the mix looks firm and brownish, remove the pan
  8. Let the cakes rest for approximately 5 minutes to allow it to firm up
  9. Add the BBQ sauce on top of each cake and serve

Shopping for all of these goodies, especially those Tyson products, at Sam’s Club saved both time and money so I can always do my best to make the most of my Homegating parties. I think the same would be true for you, too. Let me know if you give these recipes a shot. They taste great and have a good mix of flavors and textures to make it interesting. Even all three of my kids love these…and that’s saying a lot.
