It’s getting so close, I can almost taste it. What is that, you ask? A donut? A slice of pizza? Of course not! I’m talking about spring break, baby. It’s coming before you know it. Why don’t you start thinking about it already?? Spring break is always a time of excitement. The winter cold is starting to shake off and the Earth is waking up. Leaves and flowers are sprouting and temps are rising. It’s the perfect time to be outside.

Spring break is also the perfect time to take a vacation and enjoy the outside. One fantastic way to get away AND to really appreciate the awesome change in weather is to take the family on a road trip! Road trips can be a huge amount of fun. It doesn’t have to be far and it doesn’t have to be fancy. It just has to be. The freedom and flexibility associated with this type of travel really makes it ideal for shorter getaways and family time. You really do spend a lot of time together…and that’s awesome. If you want to stop for a snack – done. Stop to see an unplanned sight – done. Just stop to stretch out a bit – done. It is ideal when you have kids. Ideal.

Our first, and still best, full-on road trip was almost 4 years ago. Man, I could have sworn it was 2 until I looked back for photos. Time really does blaze right by. Enjoy it. Which is another reason to love road trips – it’s low and slow. Take your time and do what you like. It’s all about spending time together. Anyway, I digress.

The best road trip we have taken was our 10 day New England getaway. We saw a ton and it was amazing since little Caleb was not even 6 months old at the time. He did not like the long parts of the drive, but that was ok. It was all part of the adventure. Natalie and Liam had plenty to do while in the car. We played games and sang songs, bopped to the radio, and just stared out the window at the sights. You see, with a road trip, you can really see all around and get so much more out of the actual traveling part of the trip. It’s not just point A then point Z. It’s all the points in between. And that’s the…point.

We hit all the spots…upstate New York, Vermont, Boston Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut! It was great and we really couldn’t get enough. It was one of the best and most memorable trips we’ve ever taken (and we’ve taken quite a bit collectively), and that’s saying a lot. It seems so simple, almost quaint in today’s over-the-top, ultra-fancy-everything world. When all is said and done, all we really have is each other – family and friends and our time together.

We love it to so much, we are going to go on a Washington DC road trip with my family and 4 other families this April for our spring break!!! We cannot wait.
