Hemorrhoids. For some reason it just seems like it’s something that people don’t like to talk about. Like it’s “weird” or something. Well, it’s not. Hemorrhoids are very common and nothing to be ashamed of. Nearly three out of four adults will have hemorrhoids from time to time. Sometimes there are no hemorrhoid symptoms but at other times hemorrhoid flare-ups cause itching, discomfort, and bleeding. Nobody wants to deal with bum discomfort, let alone deal with those painful hemorrhoids when you’re on vacation, have an important meeting at work, or you’re spending the day with your kids.

While hemorrhoids can really can be a pain in the…well you know…there are some good things about the condition. Pain from hemorrhoids can be well-managed and almost prevented in many instances. Here are some simple and easy ways to manage and treat if a flare-up should occur. It’s with these easy steps that I refuse to let bum discomfort stop me from having fun, traveling, and getting things done!!!

Go To The Bathroom

Yes, that sounds funny, but a lot of what causes people to have if not going to the bathroom when they have to. Don’t wait! If you are doing something, just take a quick pause and handle your business. The more you wait, the harder your stool gets harder and more difficult to pass.

Don’t Set Up Camp

When you do find yourself taking care of business, try not to make it a headlining event. If you have to go, just get in and get out. Kind of like when you have to go shopping. I have issues with this, I must admit. Yes, all the magazines and your phone can cause you to set up shop in there, but fight the urge! The more time you spend in there, the more likely you will strain yourself. Plus, sitting down puts extra stress on your anal blood vessels, which is exactly the spot where irritation causes hemorrhoids.

Exercise

When you’re a lump on a log, your insides get to be lazy, too. When you move around, you are moving your waste around your intestines like Mario Andretti around a Formula One track. Walk, run, bike, whatever, just get moving. Take note, excessive squats and lunges may feel great but may lead to some issues, so keep those to a moderate level. Similar to the exercise, these foods help you poop, which is a great way to not get constipated and strain to get it all out.

You Are What You Eat

Ok, so maybe you don’t want to be a huge piece of fiber, but increasing your fiber and whole grain intake, along with fruits and veggies are a great way to help prevent any hemorrhoid issues. Improving your diet can really improve your life in many ways.

Drink More Water

And it all comes back to the poop it seems. Poop is about 75% water in most cases, so being hydrated and watering up keeps that poop flowing easily. Thereby making your movements easier. Thereby…I think you see a pattern, yes?

Clean, Fresh, and Cool

Keeping yourself clean can also aid in preventing hemorrhoid discomfort. If you do happen to need hemorrhoid treatment, hemorrhoid wipes are awesome at treating flare-ups. For my money, the best in the business have to be PreparationH medicated wipes, in particular Preparation H Totables.
