Health. It can take many forms and attaining it is different from person to person. You can be a great athlete. You can be an intelligent and thoughtful person. You can be happy. While there are any number of ways people try to be and stay healthy, there are some ways that seem to be overlooked in today’s “anti-bacterial” world.

Many people seem to equate clean with getting rid of germs and bacteria. Sterilization is way too important for to many. Bacteria are a natural part of the human ecosystem. The tide may be starting to turn, though. More people like to use probiotics, exercise, and eat healthy. Organic wasn’t even “a thing” for most people not too long ago. And now we have an innovative company looking to change the way we look at health once again.

It’s called Mother Dirt.

Mother Dirt was actually created to rethink health, and do it for both men and women. Much like people are realizing we need GOOD BACTERIA in our bodies, Mother Dirt is the first time anyone has created products to nurture the good bacteria of the skin. Why? Because despite being “cleaner” than ever, and having more options than ever, healthy skin still eludes us.

I love it. I truly think people should get dirtier. And this goes for your kids, too. It’s crazy to see people get so insane about their kids getting a little dirt on their hands and clothes. That’s part of being a kid and it should be part of being an adult. It’s kind of like getting back to the earth. People want to eat local, organic, and without drugs and anything artificial. That’s great for your insides, but you also have to think about your outsides. Constantly being stuck inside an air conditioned, perfectly sterile and clean room isn’t good for us, just like eating fast food every day isn’t. Get outside, run, jump, lay on the grass.

Do some gardening, build some dirt piles with your kids, don’t freak out. Get some dirt and grass stains on your knees and your pants and don’t worry if the stain will come out. Make today the start of your realizing that the dirt is good. It’s where you live and where you walk. It’s where your food comes from. It’s not a bad thing.

This is all a unique concept today I know. To that end, what makes Mother Dirt so unique? The products help users maintain a balanced microbiome on their skin. The net effect of this is an improvement in the look and feel of their skin. This includes anything from improvements in hydration, the balancing of oil production, (helping with both oily and dry skin), improvements in body odor and the overall soothing of the skin. Because of these benefits, users find that they can cut down or cut out cosmetic products like soaps, deodorants, moisturizers etc.

I’ve really enjoyed all of the Mother Dirt products I’ve tried. Here’s some info:

  1. The AO+ MIST (MSRP $49) is the base of the entire line. It’s a live probiotic spray for the skin and it’s really helped to rebalance my skin and reducing my need to product.
  2. The FACE & BODY CLEANSER (MSRP: $15.00) is the perfect cleanser and complement to the mist. It’s gentle formula that cleans without removing good bacteria plus it’s preservative free and kid-friendly to boot.
  3. Granted to don’t seem to use as much as in the past, but the BIOME-FRIENDLY MOISTURIZER (MSRP: $34.00) is a preservative free, clear & nourishing formula for face and body. The ingredients selected mimic the natural skin barrier and replenishes essential components typically removed with modern cleansing products for better looking and feeling skin.
  4. Finally, the SHAMPOO (MSRP: $15.00) is another gentle formula for preservative free and naturally healthy-looking hair.

It’s pretty awesome that these products are actually designed to be so good that you use less of it! We’ve all heard the phrase “less is more,” and this idea plays a large part in the natural products movement. Mother Dirt is all about quality and simplicity…naturally. They want to establish a world where clean comes with healthy. Sterility is not natural.

Well, what do you think? I know this is a very foreign concept for many people, but I think it’s a good way to think for us all going forward. What do you think about getting a little more dirty and being a little more healthy, both inside and out?
