I am becoming a new and improved person this year. I’ve been eating very healthy and have been exercising a decent amount. This was a long time coming, and I finally took that all-important plunge. I mean, I am 40 now and all. Everyone today seems to focus on diet and exercise, but there is something else that is just as important when you really think about the huge impact it has on individual passions, motivations and performance. That, my friends, is sleep! Yes, sleep. I bet you didn’t think of that one, did you? It’s something that we just don’t seem to take as seriously as we should.

Sleep. It’s important. I think most of us know this and do the best we can to get as much of it as we can. In today’s busy and very distracted world, it seems like getting enough of a good night’s sleep is secondary, almost whimpy. You can see and hear it now, can’t you? “Ah, I’ll sleep when I’m dead…I really need to get to my farming on this awesome new app.” The mere thought of it sounds moronic, doesn’t it? But we all seem to do it. It could be for very valid reasons, too, like worry, work, or a newborn baby. Whatever the reasons, it’s important to fight through it and get to that sleep.

Now, I love me some sleep, but I did tend to take it for granted. A good night’s sleep is like a gift from the heavens, especially when you’re married with three kids, a dog, fish, and a mortgage that’s paid for with the proceeds from the small, online blogging business that you and your wife owns…but I digress. For you to be your best, healthiest, and most effective in this world, you simply have to get your rest…and you have to make that rest count.

This is where the awesome Beautyrest Sleeptracker monitor comes in and this is why I decided to take the #ISleepTo challenge!! I wanted to see how much I can improve my sleep and this app and sleep monitor were the answer to my prayers. It will be for you, too, whether you think you need it or not!!!

Overall, I’ve always been a pretty good sleeper, but nobody is perfect, right? Using this app has caused me to rethink some things and to really practice better discipline when it comes to my sleep. Data related to my total sleep, time to fall asleep, light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep is all reported. I’m given a sleep score and a sleep efficiency score. It even let’s me know about my average breathing rate and heart rate, too! This is all so important, but the best part is that you can really see how your sleep progresses each and every night, minute by minute. Even better, it’s super easy to setup and it’s not a wearable. The biggest pain point of wearables is that they must be worn on the body and charged regularly. Unlike wearables, the Beautyrest Sleeptracker monitor is completely non-invasive and plugs directly into a wall outlet.

The Beautyrest Sleeptracker monitor gives me a closer look at the things keeping me up at night and offers personalized, easy-to-implement insights to help me make the most of my time asleep. As a result of using the Beautyrest Sleeptracker app each night, I’ve changed a few things and I have such a stronger understanding of my daily habits that affect my sleep. By implementing simple changes to my routine, I find myself waking up ready to perform at my best.  For one, I am much better about getting to bed and shutting it all down. When that alert goes off, it’s bedtime. Who knew a time for bed alarm would be even better than a time to wake up alarm! There’s even some white noise! Also, I’ve found that I don’t want to drink any water at least an hour before I go to bed. When I do, I tend to wake up and go pee, which leads to more time awake and more time in light sleep and not deep and REM sleep. It’s as clear as day! I’ve even found that sleeping on my side with a pillow between my knees allows me to sleep more soundly than on my back or stomach! This has been a goldmine of information for me and Vera. We absolutely love it and I feel much more refreshed each and every morning. I’m getting better and more healthful rest, which leads to a better day! I think this, along with my better diet and increased exercise is really improving my life and daily performance overall.
