While some people see their car merely as a convenient means of transport for getting from A to B, there are plenty more that want it to feel like their own. If you see yourself in the second camp, this article is for you. We are going to take a closer look at seven ways that you can add a personal touch to your car. Both comfort and style are covered here, and the solutions range from the simple and inexpensive to the more complicated and costly. It is likely that you won’t want to do all these things in one go – you can easily make the upgrades one by one over time. So, let’s get into the top methods of personalising your car.

Throw On A Custom Paint Job

One of the biggest ways that you can enhance the style of your car is by getting a custom paint job. This is huge. You may have bought a used car and didn’t have much choice in the matter or you may have become bored of the current shade. Either way, transforming the color will make the vehicle seem totally different. It’s really like night an day. Go for broke and mack out with a crazy pattern or even a mix of colors so your car properly stands out from the crowd.

Personalize the Plate

Putting private plates on your car can be as simple as just using your initials or you could go for something unique that grabs people’s attention right from jump. Of course, doing this can range from the very cheap to super expensive depending on the budget that you are working with. Those with the fewest letters and numbers have a tendency of being the most expensive choices. It is easier than ever to simply log online to see which plates are available and which ones have already been taken by somebody else.

Jazz Up the Inside

Personalizing your car doesn’t all have to be done on the outside; there are plenty of interior jobs which can make your vehicle seem more personalized. Try pimping out your seats with some brand new covers, which you can even have made bespoke for an extra individual touch. If you want to push it even more, you could even upgrade the seats altogether. As well as looking great, they also have the practicality of providing you with extra comfort and functionality. You could also give the steering wheel a new cover while you are at it…who doesn’t love a fresh new wheel to grab when you are going for a ride?

Enhance Your Dash

Dashboards have become steadily more sophisticated in recent years, so if you have a car that is a little bit behind the times, you could give it an upgrade to make the most of a host of new features. Otherwise, you could light things up a bit with custom dash lights or try a new print going all the way across.

The Roof is on Fire

Moving back onto things that you can do to the interior of your vehicle, another good option is to liven up the ceiling of your car a little bit. Though this won’t do much in terms of performances, it is totally a style upgrade which is what some people are looking for. Try livening up the headliner (the cover which runs across the top) to start off with. Instead of the standard material that was provided when you bought the car, you could instead put in some good-looking leather or alternatively, a starry night sky may well end up being your preference.

Pimp the Pedals

If you want the feeling like you are in a real race car, the first thing that you can do is to upgrade the seating as we have already talked about. But another good option is to enhance your standard accelerator, clutch and brake pedals. With this upgrade, you have two main options. The first is to change the pedals altogether, which will probably have the biggest effect. But if you don’t want to go to all this effort and expense, you could instead just put on some pedal covers.

Move into Top Gear

Another stylish upgrade that you can make inside your car is to enhance your standard gear-stick with a cover which simply fits over the top. This is a great way of finishing off an interior upgrade or alternatively, you could go for something that completely stands out against a plain background. If you are still trying to create that race car effect, you could go for a leather one which also provides you with an enhanced level of grip.

Add Some Gadgets

New gadgets and pieces of technology are coming out all the time which can improve your driving experience. To start off with, you could install a reversing camera to give you a better view of everything that is going on behind you. This makes life so much easier when you are attempting to reverse into tight spaces. If you don’t have a hands-free calling system, this is perfect for the busy career person who needs to take a lot of work calls when they are driving. In a similar vein, you could also consider investing in a mobile phone signal booster.

A Wheely Good Time

The wheels are one of the features that people notice first, so you could swap out your standard factory editions for some that look great, reduce overall weight and improve handling. There are a wide variety of rims to choose from depending on your personal preferences.

As you have seen from this article, there are a whole host of ways of enhancing both the interior and exterior of your vehicle. While some upgrades are simply a matter of style, others also improve the performance of the vehicle. Though these enhancements aren’t likely to make a huge amount of difference when it comes to resale value, they are still nice things to do which can really ‘level up’ your overall driving experience.

My husband used to be into fixing up import cars and would spend hours on these modifications. I think new rims are one of the flashiest ways to personalize a car. Seems to be the thing all the guys like to do!

I agree with the wheels. The first accessory I got to personalize my car were awesome looking wheels! For the interiors, as long as I have a good sound/speaker system to play my music, I’m good with that.

For some time, I have been looking into different avenues to make my car feel more unique and personal compared to other vehicles I have owned in the past. I am glad that your article mentions several ways to make a vehicle feel more personal, such as adding on to the dashboard or installing more gadgets. I think that I will get into contact with a custom car magnet company in the future once I design something that is to my liking.

Oh, thanks for the tip to upgrade your accelerator, clutch, and pedals. I’m hoping to get a new car by the end of this year. It’d be pretty awesome if I could deck it out with cool customizations.
