back to school food

With school and all the activities in full swing now, it’s always a good time to assess things like good back to school foods to make for the kids. These kids come home hungry, despite all the snacks and lunch. Early mornings, long days in class, then after-school activities work up an appetite. I can’t blame them. They are growing and working hard, so good food is essential to keep them growing strong and developing into adults!

I wanted to talk about a few options and ideas related to these back to school foods and more. I hope you give it a read and check it all out. Each of the following products will make your lives a little easier during these hectic times. And learning more about Feeding America is just good for others and good for your soul.

Feeding America

All kids need to have great back to school foods to enjoy and nourish themselves with. That’s something we can all agree on, but there’s a lot of work to be done. Food insecurity is a problem for far too many of our kids. Food waste is another issue that needs to be addressed, especially with food insecurity being such a major issue. Thankfully there are organizations like Feeding America working hard to address these issues now because food shouldn’t be an impossible choice. Nobody should be forced to choose between food and medicine or food and shelter or food and childcare.

Feeding America® is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States, provide meals to more than 40 million people each year. Feeding America also supports programs that prevent food waste while educating the public on these important issues. They are also advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry. That’s just an unbelievable list of work and accomplishments, isn’t it? It’s hard to wrap your head around that. First, to have a group that’s so kind and giving. But then second, to think that all of that need is there and there’s still so much more to be done.

September is Hunger Action Month

Did you know that September is Hunger Action Month? This is a very important month for millions of people because this is the month that Feeding America holds its annual campaign to raise awareness and inspire action. It’s all about doing what you can to help end hunger in America. Do your part and find out how you can help kids get the back to school foods they need and more.

back to school food veggies

Veggies Made Great

Do you have problems getting your kids to eat their veggies? Now, I know there are plenty of kids that eat them just fine, but I’d bet that most parents out there have experienced some difficulties with this. The key is to make the veggies fun and taste good enough for them to give it a shot, right?

Veggies Made Great makes products that try to get your kids to eat those veggies…happily! This is a company that is all about veggie-rich food that packs a high protein, low-calorie punch! It’s the first and primary ingredient in each of their products, which I appreciate. And these products are not just for kids, these are also Keto friendly and perfect for those that want to incorporate more plant protein in their diet. All items are gluten-free nut-free, and love in sugar and salt, too. Plus…they are delicious!

The Spinach Egg White Frittata is an awesome, quick breakfast option I love spinach, tomatoes, onions, and red bell peppers in just about anything! Although these taste amazing, they are only 70 calories! Plus, you’re getting 5 grams of protein to start your day off right!

If you are looking for a great handheld snack, then I think the Double Chocolate Muffins are for you! This decadent chocolate lava cake is only 110 calories, but feels and tastes so rich and moist! Amazingly enough, the first two ingredients in this treat are zucchinis and carrots…what??? Caleb had not idea.

back to school food tahini

Mighty Sesame Organic & Harissa Tahini

I like spice and I like seasoning. And for the most part, any kids do as well. They especially like interesting sauces to put on food that they may or may not love or want to eat (haha). That’s fine, as long as the food is good and the sauces and seasonings are good, too!

One great Organic, Gluten-Free, Vegan, and Non-GMO option I’ve come across that my kids have lately is The Mighty Sesame Company tahini! This nutritional option is so easy, just squeeze it onto your food like a dressing, in dips and spreads, as a mayo replacement, and more! We squeeze this delicious, creamy sesame seed paste on our veggies and salads and it just makes them pop!!!

Mighty Sesame Organic Tahini is whole seed tahini made with sesame seed, salt, and Harissa Spice. That’s it! Mighty Sesame Harissa Squeeze & Serve Tahini is also a great source of protein and has 260mg of calcium in one serving, too!!! Give it a shot and I think you will love it as we do! It’s one of Natalie’s favorite salad dressings!

back to school food pancakes

King Arthur Baking Company

Do you love pancakes? I love pancakes. My wife loves pancakes. My kids love pancakes. We are a pancake type of house. From breakfast pancakes to dinner pancakes to birthday pancakes, there’s almost never a bad time to enjoy them. Seriously, there’s nothing quite like a stack of tender, fluffy, buttermilk pancakes and the best mix we have found is King Arthur Baking Company.

King Arthur Baking Company knows their stuff. They have been helping people bake goodies for their families since 1790. Yes, 1790. A classic Vermont certified B Corp that’s 100% employee-owned, King Arthur Baking is the ultimate baking resource. The quality they have produced over the decades…well, centuries…have been a key to delicious baked goods nationwide.

The Buttermilk Pancakes mix is so good and so easy to make. Just add water! Plus, it’s made with real buttermilk and non-GMO ingredients. It’s so easy but it tastes awesome!

A really fun option my kids and I love is the Confetti Pancakes. Here you also just add water to the mix, but there’s more to it. There are all-natural sprinkles in the mix with no artificial ingredients or synthetic colors but only 5 grams of added sugar! That sounds like magic to me…and it kind of is. The kids just love the look and the taste of these. It’s like there’s a fun surprise in every bite, and I’m here for that. And so is my entire family.

Minute Rice

I bet you know Minute Rice. I think we all do. It’s been around since the ’40s for good reason. This wholesome rice is made the right way, with no processing or chemicals. It’s just so easy to prepare. That’s what makes this rice a traditional family favorite, especially in my house. It’s classic rice without any junk that’s ready in just 1 minute. That’s crazy, but it’s true. I guess those perfectly portioned, single-serving BPA-free cups know what they are doing, right?

Minute Ready to Serve cups is such an important part of so many family’s meal plans because we all seem to have busier schedules than ever. We can prepare this food in no time, leaving us more time to get work done, to get my kids to their activities, and to just spend more quality time with my family. I just love that it’s so easy to make!

If you are looking for easy, on-the-go meal options, the Minute microwavable rice cups are convenient, too. You can eat straight from the cup if need be, so it’s even easier to prepare and enjoy. It’s a nice portion too, so there’s less of a chance of overeating. That’s a plus. I love rice with just salt, pepper, and butter…but you can jazz it up however you like. have it as a side, create your own rice bowl with added protein & veggies, or make a delicious rice pudding for dessert!

If you need a little more flavor, then Minute Ready to Serve Brown & Wild Rice is chewy, nutty and 100% whole grain. It’s a nice option that adds a little more flavor to the meal. That’s the beauty of the brand. A lot is going for these little cups of easy-to-cook rice! Let your imagination run wild…especially with all that extra time, you will have to think rather than cook! Liam whips up burrito bowls to go on his way to practice all the time!

Find out more about Minute Rice

Minute Ready to Serve White Rice, Minute Ready to Serve Brown & Wild Rice, and other Minute Ready to Serve products are available at major retailers, such as Walmart and Target, as well as popular grocery stores across the country, such as Kroger, Publix and more.

Some of these foods look great – especially the Tahini. What confuses me is the chocolate muffin in the fruit box?!?
