Well, the Beer of Barbados has hit our shores…thankfully. I was at Fairway, and if you know the place, you know they have beer…lots of it..and lots of awesomeness. Not sure what I was looking for, I stumbld upon a Caribbean Lager. Literally, I don’t think I’ve ever had an island beer that I didn’t like, so it was Banks Beer for me! I love trying new beers and I love trying beers that I’ve never even heard of. This fit the bill on all fronts.

Before I get to it, here’s a little history lesson for you:

Banks Beer History

I was looking forward to opening these bad boys up. I was hoping it would be another good island beer experience, though it’s 32 degrees and rainy in NY…so it’s not exactly the same 10AM pool bar vibe that most of these have been consumed during. Well, I wasn’t disappointed. It was light enough to be “islandy” yet had some very good flavor…it was not weak or watery. A nice, very distinct, malty taste with a sweetish taste that lingers, in a good way. Little to no hops, so if you are not a bitter beer person (read IPA), then this should work for you. I was pleasantly surprised with this beer. It’s a nice change of pace from typical Bud-like lagers. I think it’s worth a shot if you are in the mood for something easy and light.
