How Kid-Like Do You Let Your Kids Act?

There’s a constant debate in my head…how much do you let you kids “get away with?” Any by get away with, I mean, how much like a kid can your kids be? They are like little balls of animalistic energy, both in a good and bad way. I know when I and most of us were growing up, this energy was pretty much on lock down whenever you went somewhere…church, a store, a restaurant.  That’s what I am used to and I pretty much agree with a lot of that. Kids should know when to behave well and when not do.  I don’t think there’s anything really wrong with that. That being said, it’s hard to never let them be silly, dopey, hyper. They get so much joy from it and it’s really all they are here to do right now. There are literally DECADES ahead of them to have to behave, work, have responsibilities. Do they really need to act “properly” all the time, all day long? Why do we do it? Doesn’t it stress you out more trying to control them? Do you feel less stressed? if so, why…are you worried about what other people may think…like you are the bad parent with the wild kids? I’m not really sure what the correct answer is, though I know that I let them act a little crazy every once in a while and I think that makes them appreciate it more and makes them know when I tell them to behave, they better do it.

Was I wrong to let them act silly with the mannequins? I don’t think so…sure this is a minor example, but I’m sure there are a lot of people that would think this was way out of line. I don’t know, I’m pretty stern, believe me, but man…let the kids have some fun sometimes…no?
