Alrighty then. This is the third year in a row that I’ve given up alcohol of any kind for Lent. Ok, please get up. You’ It’s not the end of the world, but it’s definitely challenge. I do it for myself but also for the kids. They know dad likes his beer and to give it up means something. I’m not giving up African safaris or space exploration. So, a man must subsist these days on the softer side of the beverage spectrum. ‘Tis a challenge on some of the more frustrating days, but challenge is what life is all about (or something like).
One of the best drinks I’ve had in a LONG time is Whole Food’s Italian Sparkling Mineral Water. Here’s what I think:
- The Italians know about food and drink, period)
- I generally really like flavored sparkling water/seltzer because it’s non-caloric and tends to be very refreshing (and not sweet)
- Mineral water can go either way but this is not too aggressive but offers a great mouthfeel that is nicely matched with the carbonation to cut it a bit…really a big point for me
- The strawberry flavor is actually awesome…it’s so good, it may be the best flavor (in this ilk) I’ve ever had, really
So there you have it, but I just checked WF and they only list Lemon and Lime. I’m sure these are great, too…but keep an eye out for the strawberry version too!
