Help Our Girls Achieve All They Can

This is a sponsored post for Always.

Daughters

I have a daughter and she has quickly (in my eyes at least) become a young lady. My, have these 13 years gone quickly. She is my first child of three and to say that my life has been forever changed for the better since she’s been around is the understatement of the year. She is so full of love and life that it’s hard not the smile just thinking about her. Having her as a daughter has made me a better person. Far from perfect, but most certainly better. While we all love our wives and mothers, having a daughter is a completely different type of experience and love. It’s a true blessing.

Growing Up

As she has grownup, life seems to change dramatically each and every year. Each year brings new challenges, new experiences, and new desires. She has always been an involved kid, doing lots of things that she has found fun and interesting. From singing to soccer, painting to pottery, and everything in between, Natalie is one to try anything at least once (and maybe only once). New or old, she will go all out and give it her best. And I love it. I’ve always encouraged it becauseit is with trying your best that youtruly learn to love life. Finding new and different activities and passions is what makes life worth living, so why not sample as much as you are lucky enough to be able to.

Fortunately for us, we are in a very favorable position that allows all of our kids to try so many wonderful things. Way more things than I was even able to. There’s just so much out there for kids to do now, it kind of makes your head spin. The carpool scheduling alone is a job in itself!! LOL!!!

A Performer is Born

While Natalie has seen and done it all, it’s been singing and dancing that has become her true love! She decided that sports was not the way she wanted to spend her precious time and efforts. Through dance classes and summer camps, Natalie gets all the enjoyment, exercise, discipline, and friendships she can handle through her performing! And I fully support it. To be honest, I always thought my little girl would be a dancer. She was that way since she was little. Singing, dancing, dressing up all the time. She loved it from the word go and it has stuck with her to this day. It fits her, too, since she really is a bundle of sunshine. The singing and dancing just allowher to really shine.

An Investment

Having Natalie try out all of these awesome activities through the years has been quite an investment. It’s one of the best things we have done without a doubt, but it’s a big commitment. The time that has to be put into practice, recitals, games, and more is almost like a job. We were even lucky enough to go behind the scenes and meet some of her idols, The Rockettes!!!

In addition to the time and effort that needs to be committed and spent in her pursuits, there is also a serious financial commitment. These things don’t come cheaply. Five dance classes, five-weeksummer camps, costumes, dance shoes, singing lessons. In addition to all of these, there are so many other regular expenses associated with being a young woman. It can really add up quickly. Again, thankfully, we are able to swing it and do so happily. I mean, is there a better way I could spend a few dollars? I doubt it. These activities help build her confidence and skills, and missing out can limit a girl’s potential and opportunities far beyond her childhood and teen years.

Lending a Hand

While all of the lessons, practices, and uniforms are obvious expenses, there are so many other things to consider when trying to raise and happy and healthy girl and young lady. One thing that I only recently had any experience with is period protection for them once they reach puberty and begintheir periods. Of course, Vera knows all about this, thankfully, so my job is to just make the Walmart run when needed. LOL!! But there are plenty of people that struggle with this each and every day.

Period poverty is a real problem in the U.S. Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 girls have missed school because they can’t afford period protection. But it’s not just school they miss. It also means missing out on activities they love. And the side effects of missing out can be just as real. Missing activities because of lack of access to period products only makes their already low confidence (due to puberty in general) drop even lower. It’s a terrible spiral downward.

This is all really hard to believe if you think about it. And the worst part is that what so many consider such a simple and basic part of growing up is something that is preventing so many girls from finding what makes them sing and achieving their own levels of greatness.

Always Live #LikeAGirl

Thank goodness the people at Always and Walmart have not only acknowledged this major problem, but they have really stepped up to do something about it!!! Always Live #LikeAGirl is all about helping girls stay confident. It’s about encouraging girls to stay in sports and encouraging them to persevere through failure— both of which are key confidence boosters.

This year, the Always Live#LikeAGirl campaign is aimed at keeping her involved in the confidence-boosting activities she loves—by helping tackle period poverty. To help #EndPeriodPoverty, Always and Walmart are donating a year’s supply of period products to 50 teams in 50 states. This is just something so fantastic, it’s a pleasure to be a part of and support.

Always and Walmart are doing all of this to help these young ladies have the chance to succeed, and that is just fantastic. It’s a great program and something that I think we can all appreciate!!! meghan-trainor-9

I was lucky enough to have a wonderful father/daughter night at the famous Radio City Music Hall in NYC recently. Natalie and I had the chance to go all-VIP to a Meghan Trainor concert! Hello, Father of the Year, baby! Not only did we get to go early and watch the soundcheck, we also got to chat during a Q &A with the pop superstar! She was very engaging, open and sweet! Natalie was loving it all! After that, we actually got to meet her and take a pic!!! Natalie was practically FLOATING to our seats after all of this, completely start-struck  because she had all this special one-on-one time with one of her favorite singers!!! It was really awesome!! Can you see her joy?bill-megan-trainor-picmeghan-trainor-8

We were fortunate enough to be invited to the concert by the tour’s sponsors, Tampax® and Always®. Meghan Trainor is teaming up with The Radiant Collection, from Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) Tampax® and Always® during her “Untouchable Tour,” to encourage girls to have the confidence to wear what they want all month long. As a tour sponsor, The Radiant Collection will be onsite at 26 dates throughout the U.S. tour and online to give girls the chance to show off their Radiant styles, and demonstrate how confidence is key to feeling Radiant any day and every day. Here are some shots of the Tampax/Always area.
