My wife and I went to an intro session at the Kindergarten she will be attending come September. They reviewed the principles in which they educate, ran through some examples of lessons, student work, etc. Yes, she will be going to “real” school. Over 6 hours per day, from 8:15AM to 2:20PM every day. In Pre-K she now goes for 2 1/2 hours most days, but a couple days we added a reading and science/math session that keeps her another 1 1/2 or so. It would be completely bonkers if she would be taking the bus, but we live 2 blocks away, so she’ll be walking or in our car.
How do most people handle this? For me, it’s such a mixed bag of feelings. It’s great that she’s growing up and I get to experience that. The prospect of having some additional free time (my son will be in 3 day a week pre-k) is also kind of nice. At the same time, though, I can also see that they grow up way too fast. You can already understand how people long for the days of diapers, even though at times it seems like nothing would be better than never seeing one again. It’s something all parents have to deal with and it will take some time, but the point of it…enjoy everything when you can, as much as you can, for as long as you can because once that time in their lives are over…they’re over and on to the next phase. Don’t wish too much for them to grow up, because they will!
