A World Lived Online

Technology seems to be everywhere. It’s in your pocket, it’s in your tv, it’s even in your lightbulbs! The internet of things has blossomed and it’s a part of our lives. It’s an even larger part of our kids’ lives. They do everything online.

Talk, text, surf, apps, upload videos, and who knows what else. Social media, online gaming, videos and commenting. There’s not end to the online stimulation and…interaction.Kids today speak online, which can be a great thing, or a really not good thing. Sure, kids always had their issues, like fighting with friends, dealing with bullies in the school yard, and not talking to strangers.

It starts early, with kids getting a new phone, on average, at 10 years old. Once they get that phone, they certainly use it. Common Sense Media recently stated that teens are spending on average 9 hours/day online (not including school work) and Tweens (ages 10-12) are spending on average 6 hours/day. 50% of kids have social media accounts by age 12 and some 13 year olds are checking social media 100 times a day.

As parents, we all need to be diligent.

Online Worries

While kids have to still deal with all of those things, there’s an entirely new, more sinister level to deal with…online predators, cyber bullying, seemingly unlimited access to pornography and more. It makes me sick and it makes my head spin. It’s nasty, nasty stuff.

These new online threats can be even worse than the bullies of the past. The ease and pervasiveness of the technology and the anonymity of the internet can allow for some really nasty stuff. This, coupled with the comfort of kids today sharing everything online can lead to some sticky situations. Click here  to see some harrowing facts.

Scary stuff. Truly.

Protecting Your Kids

Luckily for us, there are people out there that are using the wonders of technology to help us in this fight. It would be tough to do it alone…and now you don’t have to do. Net Nanny is a parental control and monitoring system that works on post desktops, tablets and mobile devices – up to 10 per account. If you are looking to keep your family safe from pornography, online predators, cyber-bullying, and other compromising threats, Net Nanny is for you.

Net Nanny’s award-winning technology filters, monitors, and blocks unsafe materials while allowing kids access to the Internet. And unlike other parental controls that simply block a list of web sites, Net Nanny’s dynamic filter scans and analyzes each web site to determine if it is appropriate for your child, based on your unique customization. It can even mask profanity but let the site pass, ensuring kids are protected while they navigate the Internet.

It does it all, when you aren’t around to.

My kids are 8 & 11 and they are not allowed online yet, but I know it’s just a matter of time with my oldest. This sounds like exactly what I need when the time comes.

I love this! My sons aren’t old enough to be online yet, but they’re getting there. When they do, I want to make sure they don’t accidentally go anywhere that would require uncomfortable explanations.

What a great idea! With my children starting to get old enough to use the internet, I want to make sure they are safeguarded and given boundaries.

With 2 nieces who are so technologically inclined, this seems like a great idea. I’ll definitely need to check it out and let my brother know about it.

In this day and age, it’s more important than ever to protect kids from the dangers of being online. Thank goodness for Net Nanny to help parents out with the kind of vigilance that must be constant even when mom, dad or the caregiver are busy with another task.

I totally need this for my girls. I found out they were watching some videos that were not kid-appropriate and I actually banned them from their tablets at home.

Thanks for the tips, although there’s more to do to rest assured that youngsters are not bumpint compromising themselves online. We only permit our children to utilize the web when they are on mutual spaces of our home, for example, kitchen and living room so we can give a couple of looks now and then if everything is okay.

In addition, right parental settings combined with web fiterling applicaiton will significantly reduce the risk (a great deal of them are paid, be that as it may, we are utilizing Familyfriendlydns.com. It’s free and functions admirably).
