Schick® Xtreme3® Razors Help Me Keep Cool When Things Get Extreme #TheIndisposables

“I’m sharing my life as part of a Schick® Xtreme3® sponsored series for Socialstars.”

The summer is sadly coming to an end. It was bound to happen, but this summer has been a really great one. Weather…perfect. Kids…all types of fun camps and activities. Family…lots of good times. Vacation…a couple fun ones. In other words, I couldn’t have asked for more, thank God.

When things are going well, it’s a wonderful thing. Life can be so enjoyable when everything falls right into place. No matter how good the times are, though, there are always some extreme situations you find yourself in, even if it’s on the way to the good times. I mean, with a wife, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a business to run from home…there’s a lot to juggle, and a lot to worry about. Whatever the situation, I always try to do my best to stay as calm, cool, and collected as I can be. I view myself as the rock of the family and have to stand strong. I’ll be positive to the point of being annoying, but that’s ok. I think it works best that way.

These extreme times don’t have to be the end of the world, of course, but they can certainly stress the family out or many put a crimp in your good times. Take our end of summer vacation for example. Yes, it was awesome…a Disney Cruise to the Caribbean with my family and some friends. We had a blast…beaching, swimming, boogie boarding, shows, so much good food. It was really amazing. A laugh a minute (for most of the time). But there were certainly times when the kids were a little…much. I know they are kids, but even when you are having fun at a vacation, there have to be some rules and some standards of conduct, right? Even when away, I try to be as stern as possible when the kids are out of line, while not going totally insane and maybe ruining a great activity or event. It’s a tough balance…you really have to keep your wits about you and try to remain calm and cool.

The same Disney cruise offered some truly extreme situations, though. I mean, not just one, but both ways, offered some very…interesting…flight complications! The stress was flowing from jump, but we all had to deal with it. We decided to take an 8AM flight the day of the cruise, and not book a hotel the night before, needing to board the ship by 4PM. No big deal, we thought…we’ll have plenty of time. Well, guess what…one of the engine’s generators did not turn on. Nothing. Not going anywhere.

Flight cancelled. Wow.

How in the world are we getting down there now, especially with such a definitive deadline to hit? If you’re not there by 4PM…you are missing the boat, literally. These were some stressful moments but I couldn’t get raddled. I couldn’t let Vera and kids think we were going to miss the trip of their lives. I kept assuring everyone that we will get another flight (NYC to Orlando…all day long, right), and we will get there in time. I said it’s better we were not on that plane with the mechanical issues, or even that we never boarded and got stuck. It all happened for a reason. We hung out, played games, had breakfast, and napped. I was cool and calm the whole time. 90% of me was convinced it would be fine, but the 10% that was worried never showed it! Thank goodness, they changed up the flights and got us on a new plane. Things were looking up.

When we landed we sprinted to board the Disney Cruise bus. We would not miss this boat! We were the only ones on the bus…we were so late. We got to the port…we were the only ones at the port. It was surreal, like The Shining almost. No one was around…but we flew through the lines, etc. The entire time I kept saying…this is pretty crazy, something to really remember and laugh about when we get on that cruise. Yes, I know, but it had to be done. Carrying bags, cracking jokes, handing out candy…whatever had to be done to soothe everyone’s nerves I was game for.

We got on the boat at 3:48PM. So…it all worked out in the end. It was actually pretty amazing how soon we forgot about the whole thing. Being on a Disney cruise and surprising your kids with 5 good friends (2 families) goes a long way! Even on the way back, we dealt with an incredible thunderstorm which freaked out everyone causing plans to stay at the airport hotel and worry about the dogs and having enough time to get settled before school. I laid down my same positive vibe…and we all calmed down. In the end, we got home just fine that Sat night, with some really amazing memories from the trip…even the airports.
