Play Time

I have three kids and they love to play. They are also very inquisitive. From toys to drawing to and games to apps to board games, they love to do it all. And I love that they love it all. While they love so many things, they most certainly love tech. They love apps, their phones and tablets, and all things tech-related. Some of their favorites include both apps as well as physical toys to play with. I tend to like those as well. It’s a great balance and a mix that’s the best of both worlds in many ways. There’s something positive to be said for both methods of play. I short…STEAM!

We all especially love toys that really hit on STEAM. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is just so important not only for play but for helping them to build real-life skills and knowledge. Why not have fun while learning as well???

STEAM Toys

STEAM toys are a fantastic way to not only entertain your kids, but to also help your kids stay relevant in a tech-driven world. From a young age, kids are heavily exposed to technology. Giving your kids STEAM toys can really increase their interest and focus on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. These toys can be fun, fascinating, and really build their minds now and ready them for the future! Kids can increase their skills while having fun exploring fun features and solving problems. One of my family’s favorite toy brands is Sphero!

Sphero Toys

Why do we love Sphero toys? There are a few reasons and the kids just took to the toys right from the start. They are just plain fun to play with. Next, we love that the toy is a blast, but there’s a great app that joins in on the fun!! I personally love that the brand is all about play and education working together for my kids. It’s amazing how my kids are not only having fun but becoming students, learning and growing as they play. It’s a great way to have the kids spend their valuable time!

Sphero BOLT

Sphero BOLT is an app-enabled robotic ball that provides endless opportunities to be creative and have fun while learning. Program with the Sphero Edu app from nearly any mobile or desktop device, discover awesome community-created activities, or just drive and play. Liam really liked the size of the bolt and the awesome LED Matrix that animates and displays real-time data like speed, acceleration, and direction. He also really loved creating games and coding  using Scratch™ blocks.

Me being a tech nerd, I love that it was equipped with Bluetooth SMART and a durable, waterproof shell, which is never a bad idea with kids!! This thing is built to last and I appreciate that!!

Sphero Mini

Sphero Mini packs tons of fun into a tiny, app-enabled robot about the size of a ping pong ball. Drive Mini using different modes with the Sphero Mini app. Caleb loved the blue glow and the fact that it was just his size. He also really loved that he could control the Mini in so many fun ways, including with his voice, his face, a joystick, and him kicking a ball! He was trying each and every way to see how it all worked with the Mini! He was getting really into analyzing it!

Both of the boys really liked using the Mini as a controller for a lot of fun games. They were able to use it to shoot  through space in a cool spaceship, race a ship through a tunnel, or to destroy a polygon of bricks (Caleb likes destroying things). They loved navigating the real-life mini-cones and mini-balling pins, too!! So much fun.

I love it all…and that the battery lasts a full hour before needing to be charged again!!

I love the idea of STEM toys. They are not only offer kids so much fun but also increase their skills and creativitity. I have never thought of getting STEM toys for my niece and nephew and I will get them some as they are in the elementary school.
