You’re a football fan. I know it and you know it. You are also a fan of your team. Be it your local team, like my beloved New York Football Giants, or a big-time “national” team like the Dallas Cowboys (booo), Pittsburgh Steelers, or Oakland Raiders. No matter which team you root for, it’s always nice to show your pride and spirit by rocking some sweet team gear. From hats to shorts to t-shirts, it’s also cool to support your squad.
While all the gear is pretty great, the ultimate fan statement or support has to be the team jersey. This is where you really show your love for your team and that favorite player that carries the team and really makes you cheer each and every week. For me, that guy is Eli Manning. With all his ups and downs, he’s a stud quarterback that seems to play his biggest in the biggest of games (hello Tom Brady). He’s won 2 Super Bowls for the Giants and he will likely never be forgotten for that.
It’s also awesome that my Giants colors are the great Red, White, and Blue…USA, USA, USA!!!
As much as I love my QB and my team, it’s also interesting to me to see what jerseys are popular. It’s really fascinating with rookies shooting up like comets, perennial all-stars always on the top of the list, and old-time players maybe having a great season out of nowhere picking up support around the country.
If you are into checking this out, you will LOVE Dick’s Sporting Goods Jersey Report. This dope site shows the ranking of the top selling jerseys in the USA. You can sort the list however you like – offense, defense, rookie, teams by week, 30 days, season (the season starts on draft day). You can even search by team or by player. It starts with the Top 10 but you can blow it out, it seems, forever. Last time I stopped at 160 (I’m looking at you Vincent Jackson)! Eli came in at a very strong 27, shooting up from 39. Not bad for a quiet guy that’s been around since 2004!!! It’s interesting that Philly QB Carson Wentz (people love rookies) is #1 on the list! Another Giant, Odell Beckham Jr. is #6. Two of my favorite non-Giants are Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, coming in at #3 and #5, respectively. It’s also really interesting that a lesser known player like the Vikings’ Stefon Diggs is #15 – he must have some awesome fan support! It’s all really interesting if you start looking into it. It’s like digging into the mind of the NFL fan. It must be pretty accurate given that DICK’S Sporting Goods is the country’s largest sporting goods retailer and sells all the latest NFL jerseys.
In case you were wondering how this awesome came about, DICK’S launched the Jersey Report five years ago to engage with fans and showcase favorite jerseys across the country – almost a NFL popularity contest. The report is based on online and in-store sales data and can be viewed by top jerseys overall, offense, defense, rookies and teams. Each week the DICK’S team digs into the data to find an interesting piece of data and that information is used to generate social posts. This year DICK’S has added a widget component providing the ability to pull Jersey Report data into other sites. Now fans can see Jersey Report information on blogs they currently read and hopefully, will click to the Report to see more. Pretty sweet indeed.
It’s a pretty awesome way to keep in the know, baby! To find out more about Dick’s Jersey Report, please check out:
