Warmer, More Efficient

Your home is your safe space. You want it to be comfortable, warm, cozy. You want to make it as good as you possibly can make it. While new paint, rugs, and furniture really makes your home pop, there are so many ways that you might not notice or think about that make huge differences in the way you live in your home. Think warmth, think energy efficiency, think lower heating bills! Do you have any ideas? I’ll tell you one one the best ways to check all of these things off of your list…new windows. Clever Ways for Parents to Save Money

Parents are always searching for ways to save money. It always seems like such an uphill undertaking. Once you become responsible for another human being, it seems money becomes non-existent and you wonder where all of your hard earned income has gone. While raising kids can be expensive, there are some clever ways parents have found to save money. I am going to share those tricks with you today.

Make Internet Search Your Homeboy

Scour the internet anytime that you plan to shop at a specific store. Stores don’t usually broadcast all of their discounts. Many financial savvy parents have figured out where to go and how to find the best discounts when using their favorite internet search engine.

Buy Local Produce

Often times local and fresh produce can be less expensive as a total. Sure most healthier options cost a little more upfront, but you save in the long run as the fresh produce will last longer. Find out where you can buy local produce and make the switch.

Become a DIY Whiz

Many clever parents have figured out that making their own household cleaners, laundry detergent and other similar ‘chemical items’ saves them a significant amount of cash. There are many ways to become a DIY whiz, perhaps check out Pinterest for inspiration.

Maximize Credit Card Rewards

Obviously not having a credit card would be the best option to save money but if you must opt to have one, be sure it’s beneficial to you. Many credit cards have reward systems and cash back options, opt to only use those credit cards to be that parent who gets ‘paid to shop’ so to speak.

Plan Ahead

When you learn to meal plan and keep note of when specific bills are due, you are able to plan ahead to be proactive in saving money. This clever way parents save money involves menu planning options (again search Pinterest for ideas) and using a planner to stay on track of bill due dates.

Free Family Fun

Last, but not least, you can have fun with the family without spending a ton of cash. Indoor camping, outdoor camping at home, playing board games and enjoying a movie night are just a few ways to have free family fun. Stop thinking extravagant and think simple, free family fun.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to learn how to save money, but it does take some clever, creative thinking skills. Good luck on your venture to start saving money so that you can be more relaxed to enjoy that good ole family time.

Money Shopping

Save Time and Money with Hopster

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #SaveWithHopster #CollectiveBias

This year has been a year of fitness both physically and financially for me and the family. I have been eating better, working out, and feeling good. I’ve also been on a relative tear with saving money, investing money, and paying off any debts big or small that come my way. I want my finances to be as fit as my body!

I have been improving our financial health in a number of new and different ways and technology has been a huge key to my success. Apps have made so many things so much easier, even automatic, these days. From forced saving to investing to paying your bills, you can do just about anything in minutes using your smartphone or computer. I’m all about people doing the little things here and there that really add up and make a difference in the long run. The less thought the better, it makes it that much easier and more successful. That’s why 401ks have been so great for people!!

While saving and investing is super important, so is making better choices when it comes to spending that money. A wife and three kids can get expensive! Being able to maximize deals and savings is so important. Why pay more when you don’t have to? It doesn’t make sense. The problem with trying to save as much money as possible, though, is time. It takes a lot of time to search all the circulars, the coupon sites, the magazines, the flyers, and who knows what else! I’m not saying I’m the president, but with the family, business, and home responsibilities I have, there just never seems to be enough hours in the day, let alone for an arduous task like this one is. This is the main reason I have been really pleased with the Hopster Rebates app. It makes saving money easy, all while saving a bunch of time as well.

What is Hopster Rebates? It’s a free app that’s available for iPhones and Android phones that puts so many rebates right there at your fingertips. It also helps you get a little more organized when you are doing things like your weekly shopping, back-to-school shopping, planning for a house party, and whatever else life seems to throw at you. Not sure what I mean yet? Let me show you how you can START SAVING WITH HOPSTER REBATES. It’s so simple:

First, you download the Hopster Rebates app, login with Facebook, and choose your rebates from a large selection of brands. There’s so much there, it’s pretty awesome. From baby to breakfast to meat to beauty, there’s always a great variety of savings available at a wide range of stores.

Speaking of stores, there’s a bunch to choose from if you would like to save that way. From super centers like Walmart to pharmacies like Rite Aid to supermarkets like Kroger, you can search all the rebates specific to that store in case you know you will be visiting one of them soon.

Once you find a deal you like, simply click on it and add it to your list of chose rebates. It’s fast and easy and very clear to use and understand. Once you know what you are looking to purchase, simply visit that store or stores and do your shopping. It’s great to know that you will be savings on those purchases.

When you get your goods home, it’s time to submit for the savings. Go back into your Hopster Rebates app and choose the list of rebates you have saved. The list will be clear and organized. Click on each rebate to move on to the next step, which is submitting your receipt. Take a picture of your receipt showing the items you purchased within the app and submit them each for review. The picture below clearly includes an orange post-it note in lieu of a receipt. It’s for demonstration purposes…plus I love orange stuff in pictures. Really spices things up.

Rebates will be redeemed and the cash credited to your PayPal account as soon as the redemption is validated. There is NO NEED TO WAIT TO REACH A CERTAIN NUMBER OR VALUE OF REDEEMED OFFERS! And that’s it.

You can even provide feedback to manufacturers on favorite and new products or share savings and product recommendations with friends and family. I love it, man. This really saves time and makes it so easy to save on purchases at any grocery, drug or mass merchandise store. It just that simple to save with the Hopster Rebates app.

In 2017, I all about being sharp and being fit, and this app really fits the bill.

I would highly recommend you give it a shot and see for yourself. Just download the Hopster Mobile Rebates app and get familiar with the process of redeeming offers.

Save Money and Energy with Best Buy and ENERGY STAR products #bbyenergystar

We are lucky to have a lot of “stuff” today. From fully tricked out kitchens to awesome home entertainment products to cutting edge washers/dryers. All of these things make our lives easier and more pleasant. But with all of these conveniences, come a lot of waste and a high price tag. For me, when I’m looking to get any new products like these, I am all about Saving Money and Energy, and the best way I’ve found to do this is by shopping for ENERGY STAR® products at Best Buy. ENERGY STAR certified products save money, reduce energy use, and protect the environment by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy.

Now, why would I say that? Well, for one, I know it well. I get all my goodies at Best Buy. Further, Best Buy is proud to be a 2016 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the third consecutive year!,They’ve also received a special distinction for Sustained Excellence. You see, Best Buy is committed to providing sustainable products at great prices. It’s a dope combination for sure. Here’s a little bit about why Best Buy was honored again in 2016:

  • In 2015, Best Buy sold enough ENERGY STAR® certified products to collectively save our customers $67,120,515 in annual energy costs.
  • Best Buy sold enough ENERGY STAR® certified products to collectively save enough energy to help power 70,538 households for a year.
  • Best Buy sold enough ENERGY STAR® certified Audio Equipment and Sound Bars to collectively help prevent the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to removing 2,013 cars from the road for an entire year.

Crazy cool!!! So, as you can see, Best Buy is committed to positively impacting the environment and our communities. Best Buy provides customers like you and me with a wide assortment of sustainable products, from appliances like washers and dryers to sweet electronics like sound bars.

With ENERGY STAR we can all make a little bit of a difference while help our wallets, too. ENERGY STAR is a good choice for people interested in reducing their energy bill while helping to protect the environment. Products come with two price tags: the purchase price and the cost of operating the product. ENERGY STAR certified products can help customers save money on operating costs by reducing energy expenses without sacrificing performance. It’s so easy!

If that’s not enough, here’s a video with tips on learning how to save!!!

Now, how do you take advantage of all of this wisdom and awesomeness??? How about you check out some awesome ENERGY STAR Products at Best Buy:

Sound Bars

ENERGY STAR certified audio/video equipment, including sound bars is up to 50 percent more efficient than conventional models. Consumers can maximize their energy savings by bundling ENERGY STAR certified televisions and sound bars and other products.

“ENERGY STAR certified dryers use 20 percent less energy than conventional models without sacrificing features or performance. They do this using innovative energy saving technologies, such as moisture sensors that detect when clothes are dry and automatically shut the dryer off. Many ENERGY STAR dryers also include convenient features, such as steam cycles that can help save time on ironing clothes by preventing wrinkles.

More than 80 percent of American homes have a clothes dryer, so the savings opportunity is huge. If all clothes dryers sold in the US were ENERGY STAR certified, Americans could save $1.5 billion each year in utility costs and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to more than 2 million vehicles. To choose a dryer that saves energy and money while protecting the environment, look for the ENERGY STAR label.

4 Money-Saving Tips for Growing Families

3 Dollar Signs

If your family is growing quickly, like I think they all do, then saving money is probably a top priority for you. I know it is for us, as we are continually looking for new and creative ways to do just that. Baby items, new clothes and shoes for growing kids, and an expanding grocery bill are constantly moving target, which makes balancing your budget a challenge. No matter how much money you have or make, there are a few surprising ways you can save money while taking care of your family.

1.     Unplug Appliances

This may sound crazy, but the little things add up after a while. Turning off the lights and switching off the TV when you leave a room have probably already become money-saving habits, but how about unplugging appliances you do not use every day? This may also help shave a few dollars off your electricity bill each month. Appliances that you typically use once a day, such as the toaster, blender, or coffee maker still use electricity, even if they are turned off. Pull the plug on these babies each morning and you should see a small decrease in your monthly bill.

2.     Avoid Impulse Shopping at Discount Stores

Shopping at discount stores for your kids’ school supplies, marked-down clothing, and even pet food can help you save money. However, when shopping, you have to tackle it with a plan. Do not go in for one thing and buy ten others. Avoid impulse shopping. The price cuts and wide selection of items in these stores can provide the temptation for you to fill up your shopping cart with way too much stuff, before you realize it. Purchasing all those extras, even if they do not cost much, can add up when you get to the register.

It’s easy to avoid this pitfall, though. When you shop at a discount store, make a list of the items you plan to buy before you leave home. When you arrive at the store, stick to the list and let your kids know you will not be straying from it, no matter what. They are on the see-buy plan. It’s like the seafood diet, but it pretty much means they want to buy everything they see in store, no matter what it is! This is a killer. Maybe they could stay home with grandma and grandpa sometimes…;o)

3.     Review Your Vehicle Insurance Policy

If it has been a while since you took a look at your car insurance policy, it may be time to give it another look. Fees, wasted coverage, and other money-sucking issues may be jacking up your bill more than it needs to be. Before your next payment, sit down with your local representative and review your current policy together. Look at factors such as whether you require collision on your vehicle, what kind of new safe driver rewards you now qualify for, and whether tweaking your car insurance policy might result in lower monthly payments. And don’t be afraid to make the switch! Complacency is a big reason your bills could be higher than they need to be. All these things could add up to big savings.

4.     Sign up for Customer Rewards

While using customer rewards used to fill up your wallet with a jumble of cards you had to present at checkout, today’s customer rewards are largely digital at many stores and can go a long way when it comes to saving money with coupons and other discounts. Before you start signing up for discount clubs, take the time to sit down and decide where you can save the most money. Ask yourself where you shop the most often, where are you most likely to use coupons before they expire, and which stores offer the best perks to maximize your savings.

Juggling the family budget can be a huge challenge for any parent, but if you know where savings can be found and how to use them effectively, go for it. With a little bit of effort and some modest planning, you could easily save money each and every month. This really adds up in the end and can make for some significant savings each year. That’s something that’s always worth the effort.

So Far, So Good in 2016

Good Things Happen

Well, crazily enough, January is coming to a close. As always, the time seems to fly right by. Where does it go, no really? It’s amazing. Christmas seemed like yesterday. As the winter months are flying by and the spring will be upon us before we know it, I’m just taking a minute to reflect on the year as it’s going.

I’m Not Obsessed is gone and not forgotten, but it’s better that it’s gone. It freed up some more time for me to work on this and to concentrate on the other sites and work we need to get done. So far, it’s been good. I’ve been consistent and steady in my work on GAB and have been getting noticed by more and more brands and PR agencies. That’s great as that’s what 2016 is all about. My building this site up, sharing my life, and giving you my take on the world. I hope it’s been enjoyable and entertaining so far. It’s like a new career for me, as this is really the first time I’ve had a sustained push and effort on the creative side. I enjoy it and I’m glad I decided to focus on this more.

Health wise, I’ve been eating great and I’ve been exercising more. I’m down about 6 pounds with a whole lot more to go, but it takes time. I’m in no rush. I have a ways to go, but I’m on the right path. I just really needed to reset my life and the way it was going. I’m only in my 30s for one more year after all, then it’s all down hill. I best be prepared.

I’m also trying my best to spend more time with the family, unplugged. It’s hard because the business is demanding and always needy, but it has to happen. I’m going to do my best at focusing on this, for everyone. It’s just about the most important thing anyone can focus on, though sadly, sometimes we just can’t.

I’ve also made some great strides in stabilizing our finances and expenses. I’ve lowered our health insurance bill by a ton, re-established our 401K, set up some new life insurance and other investments. I’m back in control and in the saddle after some time off. It feels good and I like the path we are on again.

It’s been a pretty eventful start to 2016 and a very positive one in most ways. Good things are happening and I hope and pray for continued blessings through the winter, through 2016, and beyond. I wish the same for all of you, too. Thank God all seems well!
