Choosing the right flooring for the different rooms in your home is a big decision. You want your home to be comfortable yet look stylish, and, of course, take price and practicality into account. Each room in your home has its own feel and purpose, so you’ll need to think about each room on its own, and consider the overall look and feel of the entire house when making your decision. Here are some tips for choosing the best types of flooring for all the different rooms in your home.
Living Room
Flooring for the living room depends on your preferences and your lifestyle. Hardwood is a great option if you have pets or if there is a lot of foot traffic. If it’s a warm and cozy feel you are after, carpet may be for you. If you have kids and go the carpeting route, it might be a good idea to opt for a flecked texture style to help hide any stains or spills. Love the look of hardwood, but on a budget? Consider Luxury vinyl plank.
Kitchen
It makes sense to have flooring that’s easy to clean up in the kitchen. Hardwood or ceramic tile are both great options for kitchens, as they are durable and make for easy clean up.
Dining Room
Since the dining room is typically attached to the kitchen, it’s usually best to extend the flooring from one room to the next. While you may not spend quite as much time in the dining room as you do in the kitchen, hardwood or tile make great choices here as well, especially if you like to do a lot of entertaining.
Bathroom
Between the humidity of the room and water splashing from the shower or bath, you’ll want to make sure to choose a water-resistant flooring here. Luxury vinyl tile or ceramic tile will work well in the bathroom to ensure that the water and humidity don’t cause any issues.
Playroom
Carpet in a playroom will help keep the noise level down and it will also be the most comfortable if your kids are sitting and playing on the floor. Choose a carpet that is stain resistant so any spills that occur (and you know they will!) will be easy to clean up.
Bedroom
Either carpet or hardwood is a great option here. If you are after a warm & cozy or luxurious feel carpet is one way to go. You can get this same feel with hardwood flooring, just add a plush area rug. Hardwood also complements modern or rustic tastes.

Thank you for such helpful tips. We are buying a home soon and this information will come in very handy!
I would love new flooring in my house. Once we no longer have pets, I would like new hardwood. For now though, their nails tear through the finish.
a friend of mine has been talking about new flooring in her home for the last couple of weeks. I’ll have to send her to this post!
I love hardwood floors and although it was expensive, it was what me and my husband agreed upon when our house was being built. Never had any regrets. Hardwood floors last forever with proper care.
