Child Safety

When you have kids, there are just some brands that you know and love. They just become an ingrained part of our lives. Some are for fun, some are for convenience, and some are for child safety.  Knowing that a company is trustworthy and always looking to create the best products is key. It’s also great to see that a company is always looking to lead an industry and bring up the level of quality (and safety) for everyone!

While there are so many aspects to protecting your child in today’s busy world, one that comes top of mind is baby proofing your home. It takes time and thought since your little one will spending so much time at home when they are little. They can be a real hand full when they are little (or even at 5!), so you really want to do your homework when planning it all out.

Child Proofing

What’s really shocking is that there are currently no regulations for certain child/home safety categories, including locks and latches. Many parents (like me) don’t realize this. Safety 1st is looking to change this.

Safety 1st has recently increased it’s commitment to child safety by follwing self-imposed manufacturing and testing standards. While many juvenile product categories, including swings, walkers and car seats, are strictly regulated by government agencies, manufacturers of locks and latches used for child proofing are not currently held to any mandatory guidelines. I was really surprised to hear this, really. It’s almost hard to believe.

The Highest Standard in Safety

As a global leader in the juvenile products category, Safety 1st just announced a brand-new initiative – its Highest Standard in Safety commitment, self-imposed manufacturing and testing standards to help formalize practices for the industry.

The Highest Standard in Safety includes head-to-head competitive lab tests, as well as in-home trials. The goal is to test the locks and latches to see how children and parents interact with the products. Through this extensive process, Safety 1st is able to quickly identify opportunities to improve design, manufacturing or product instructions. Safety 1st is formalizing its industry-leading, self-imposed manufacturing and testing standards to deliver superior products to families.

Based on Safety 1st leadership in testing, design and manufacturing, Dorel Juvenile is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), ASTM International and other organizations to establish standards for all home safety products nationwide.

I was lucky enough to attend an event in NYC recently to learn all about this new initiative. It was at the very cool The Kitchen Table in NYC, and it was the ideal location to show off what Safety 1st can offer. It was great seeing Safety 1st with HGTV star, Clint Harp (from HGTV’s Fixer Upper and DIY’s Woodwork).

Clint was sharing pro tips for parents on child proofing your home, as well as the needed essentials to get all of your spaces prepped. He was a really nice guy with a passion for making sure kids are safe in the home. He knew his stuff and when he spoke about his kids, he really seemed to beam with pride! It was nice to see.

We are long past the baby-proofing stage in our house, but back in the day we ONLY used Safety 1st products. I trusted them to keep my kids safe.

It looks like Safety 1st just keeps getting better! It’s so important to secure things as best as we can so the little ones don’t end up with an accidental injury. So cool that you are working so closely with them Bill!

I love this brand. The biggest plus for me is the ease of use. When my kids were little, we had child-proof everything, and most of it was almost adult-proof, too!

This is really important especially for new parents. There’s nothing like making sure that the whole house is safe for your child to explore without any accidents happening. Glad they can rely on Safety 1st!

My house still has the baby proofing latches on a lot of my cabinets but the kids are older now. I will share the Safety Frrst brand with my siblings that still have small children.

When our kids were little, we child-proofed everything low to the ground that we could think of. This brand would have been so beneficial when our kids were little.

I do not miss the days of cabinet locks! I used to go crazy when my toddlers would figure out how they worked!

When your kids get into the toddler stage, you realize how much you have to babyproof. I love Safety 1st’s initiatives and plus, I’ve always been a huge fan of their brand.

These safety locks look so great. I really need to pass this along to my friend that now has a toddler getting into everything!

We have “baby proofed” our house and installed safety locks in our house because we often babysit for our grandkids. Better safe than sorry. I will check the website link you provided and see if there are any more additional safety devices we can install at home.
