Girl loving The College Student First Aid Kit

This is a sponsored post in partnership with The College First Aid Kit. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Sands of Time

As we age, I think we have a much better, more informed, even more enlightened view of the world. Now, I don’t mean we all become geniuses and start inventing cures for diseases. I mean that I hope that we understand the value of enjoying life and spending time with those we love. The days may seem long, but the years go by very quickly, to paraphrase a famous idiom. You see your kids grow, your friends age, and you find yourself changing with each passing year. Time continues on, no matter how much we may not want it to or how much we are enjoying the current moment. It’s simple and it’s been since the dawn of man. And that’s ok, as long as you accept it, understand it, and make the most of it. But sometimes we need a lifeboat or a first aid kit, right?

Why the Deep Thoughts?

I got a little deep there, maybe, but that’s ok. I seem to be much more reflective of life now that I’m over 40 and my kids keep getting older and older. There are plenty of times that I do get a little wistful and nostalgic depending on the day. My daughter is going to high school, my middle guy is in middle school, and my youngest is about to finish Kindergarten and move into the numbered grades. I have also been with my wife for 21 years (18 plus of marriage) and my parents are both turning 75 this year. I mean, it was bad enough when we had to tell Natalie about Santa! It’s a runaway train and I just hope that I enjoy the ride and make the most of it.

Did You Say College?

No, and stop jumping the gun. I said high school. Unfortunately, though, my daughter is already talking about college. I wish she would just slow down a bit, but I can’t blame her. We all were there and we all wanted to “get big.” Plus, I think about her going to college, too. I meant, middle school came and went…and so will high school.

Along with all of this comes the need to prepare. As a parent, you need to save for school and prepare mentally for your child to have more freedom and independence. It will be a hard pill to swallow for some and quite a relief for others. Maybe it’s a mix of both. I think that’s what it will be for me.

Getting Ready

Along with all of that mental and financial planning, you come to a point where you actually have to help them prepare for actually GOING to college. I mean physically going. There’s a lot to it, if you remember. Can you even think about all the prep and the gear and the clothing? All the books and the schedules and the rides or tickets there and back home.

There are just so many “Dorm/ College Necessities,” right? Some of them are truly important and some of them are big wastes of money. I mean, how many decorative pillows, expensive area rugs, kitchen/ cooking gadgets, and plants that will surely die do these kids really need?? Amiright?

I showed this kit to Natalie and she was super excited. She asked if I could save it until she went…and then she proceeded to start using stuff. She loved it…and so did I! This is such a fantastic product, I can’t begin to explain it. We were both so impressed with everything that was in there. I’m surprised she was so into it, actually. I mean, she wrapped her leg because it was feeling a little funny after dance!! Fantastic stuff.

Focus On Their Health

One thing that doesn’t seem to come to the top of the list, but really should, is the importance of health at college. I had a great time, but there were always issues, especially when living in that dorm. I got all types of colds, flus, and even mono my freshman year! It was crazy. Another time I sprained my ankle so badly playing basketball that I was on crutches for three weeks! I mean, I’m not even a clumsy person. It really just happens. That’s life, but as parents, it would be great if we can supply our kids with something good to help them prepare for life bumps and bruises when we aren’t there to help them.

The College Student First Aid Kit

The College Student First Aid Kit was created by Beth Palmer Stewart, a Nurse practitioner with over 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents and young adults. She realized that while college students seem to have all the pillows they could ask for, they could use a little more in the way of medicines and remedies. It makes sense, I know I only had a few things with me when I went away. It wasn’t exactly on the top of my “most wanted” list.

Beth first came up with the idea of creating a first aid kit that is specifically designed for the unique needs of a college student when she sent her child off to college. As with so much else, life experiences and needs drove someone to come up with an awesome product to address those needs!! I love it, especially since I was (old man war story) a lifeguard for many years. This is really important and I love that someone came up with this idea.

What is it?

A lot has gone into designing this kit, and it shows. I mean, they have really thought of just about everything in this baby. It’s so comprehensive, it’s amazing. The creator, Beth, spoke with everyone she could to really try and pin down exactly what college kids should have in the kit to address as many needs as possible. Once she sorted that all out, she compared prices of medications and supplies with over 50 vendors. This kit is legit and more than just cotton balls and Band-Aids, it is thoroughly thought out in every way.

Beth has created a kit that is comprehensive, organized, and affordable. This kit sports over 50 different medications, ointments, creams, drops, tools, and wound care items. I mean, I think it’s pretty safe that this kit is really packing the stuff that will help college students everywhere!

Wow this is so cool! t looks so organized and it definitely would have been useful to me when I was in school. You’re right that it seems like so much more than cotton balls and alcohol like your typical first aid kit.

I agree with you that stay healthy is imporant in college. I got mono during my last year in college and it lasted for months. I wish I knew better when I was in your daughter’s age.

I wish I had this when I was in college! I was living alone and far away from my family. What sucks was the pharmacy was too far from my place so sometimes I would have to just live through my sickness LOL.

Before the paramedics get there, the kit would have held everything together, on ground, PROPERLY! I love that it is fully-stacked for emergencies.

That is really great to have on hand in college. I remember getting hurt and had no supplies to fix it.

I know this post is a couple years old, but as the Mom of a college student, please send a first aid kit similar to this with your student. My student was in a small rural town where the only store was a Casey’s Gas Station. The closest Wal-mart was 20 minutes away. Trust me, college is just like kindergarten–once one kid gets a cold or the flu, it runs rampant to everyone it their dorm. You can only imagine how many Covid exposures we had! Anywhoo by the time they realize they are sick enough to need meds, they are too sick to want to drive to the next town for basic meds. Mine would rather just suffer it out that go get them or ask someone else to go! Mine is moving in a house this year with 7 other students, and I am still updating her first aid kit to send off with her next month. It will be just like living in the dorms…
