Old Man Winter Is Coming

Hello all of my cold weather people, winter is coming fast. Can you feel it? That chill in the air while the sun is still rising, and that bite of chill during the night. Yes, it’s still pretty warm during the day, but the clock is ticking and colder days are sure to b ahead. While we are still enjoying that last gasp of relative warmth, there’s some planning to be done. You need to make sure you have warm clothes for the kids, coats that fit, and properly sealed and insulated windows and doors. While there are so many things to take care of, perhaps the most important thing would be to make sure your heating system is primed and ready to function at the high level you expect it to! Are you ready to fire up your furnace and take on winter? The cold, short days of winter and the the holiday season is a bad time for your furnace to be on the fritz.

Getting Ready

First, perform a Heating and Cooling System Self-Assessment. There are always some Quick and Easy Fixes for Home Furnaces that you can likely take before you get the professionals coming in. Also, please be sure to take a good look at your water heater – is there anything worse than a cold shower?? Before you really get going, I just wanted to share one more thing with you. It’s a great list of 7 Easy Energy-Saving Tips for Winter.

It took me a lot of time and a lot of heartache to figure that some things are true about your HVAC and some are not. I love this list of 8 Debunked HVAC Myths. It’s a very telling and informative piece from Sears that really puts a lot of these important issues into perspective.

Deciding to do preventive maintenance is so important. Nobody wants to be out in the cold and left with no heat.

We definitely check everything that needs to be checked before a new season swoops in and we experience inconvenience in the middle of it. These are great tips!

We don’t get really cold winters here in Houston, but it is always a good idea to make sure your systems are running correctly
