Thank you Jenny Craig for sponsoring this post. Tried other diets? It’s time for Jenny Craig!
I am a yo-yo. That’s right, I said it. I’m a health/eating/fitness yo-yo. I go all in and get into a massive groove (or rut, depending on how you look at it) in either direction. When I’m eating well and exercising, I’m all in. I’m in the zone. I’m focused and have my eyes on the prize. I go to parties and don’t have any food or drinks, but rather flavored seltzer. No joke. People either think I’m whacko or admirable. I’d like to think I’m the latter. When I decide to do anything, I do it with 100% of my being. There’s no in-between.
The last couple of years, unfortunately, I’ve been focused on anything but health. Lack of exercise and zero discipline in the way I’ve eaten has caused me to gain a ton of weight. A ton. I’ve not been happy about this at all. My clothes don’t fit, my gut is huge, I’m just not looking or feeling good anymore. I don’t want that for me, for Vera, or for the kids. It’s just not a good way to live and I don’t want anyone around me to think it might be. I want to be a good example, plus it just feels so much better to be healthy and look healthy, doesn’t it? Sure, it’s an uphill climb that takes a lot of work, but you just have to commit and tell yourself that it’s just something that has to be done. There are many reasons for it – take your pick. The thing with me is that I know exactly how I should be living and how to get back into shape. Balanced meals, smaller portions, more veggies and fruit, little to no junk. I just needed to find that final big push to get me going in the right direction. The best thing about it is – once you get moving in the right direction, your body adjusts and gets me moving at light speed in the right direction. Don’t get me wrong, it takes work, but I do get to the point that I need to eat less and that I actually crave fruits and better snacks like nuts instead of chips and cookies. Believe me, if you’ve never tried it, it will happen to you. Just give your body a chance.
With all of this background in mind, I decided it was time to do something big. I decided to start the Jenny Craig program. It was a big decision, but I was ready, willing, and able to commit to it. So, on March 3rd, I began my long journey to my goal of losing 40 pounds. There’s no losing, other than all those pounds!
I’m psyched about the program. I’m all in! I’m still not a month in yet and so far I’ve lost 14 pounds*! It’s awesome!
*Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration.
The aspect of the Jenny Craig program I like the most is that it is designed to provide structure and support to help members lose weight and learn how to keep it off. You get the main part of each of your three meals a day, plus snacks and sides, from Jenny Craig each week at your local center. Most meals and snacks are to be supplemented with your own veggies, fruits, and Greek-style yogurt. I eat 5-6 times a day and am mostly very satisfied. I’m shocked actually. I’m on a 1500 calorie a day plan and it’s more than enough. Yes, there are days when I am hungrier than others, no doubt about it, but I’m never ravenous like I thought I would be. That’s the truth. And you learn how to add more fruits, veggies, nuts, and other healthy snacks and sides to fill you up on those tougher days.
Jenny Craig’s program provides nutritionally-balanced menus, which include more than 100 delicious entrees, desserts and snacks developed by dietitians, nutritionists, and professional chefs. There are egg scrambles, cinnamon rolls, tacos, pizza, cheesesteaks, burgers, chocolate cake, and much more. There’s something for everyone.
Here’s a bit more about the food. I actually like to love most of it, but this can all be adjusted to your tastes. Here’s a bit more about the Jenny Craig Food:
- Jenny Craig entrees are the basis of every meal. Members add in their own fruits, vegetables and dairy for balance and variety. Plus, consultants teach members how to combine delicious Jenny Craig Meals and Snacks with Fresh & Free Additions that are rich in water and fiber to keep you feeling full longer with fewer calories.
- The Jenny Craig Program reflects the key recommendations of the 2015 US Dietary Guidelines to achieve a healthy eating pattern and active lifestyle in order to reduce risk and attain a healthy weight.
- The food is designed to help members experience healthy ingredients and learn proper portion control. Having the structure of a menu with portion-controlled meals can help members feel more in control of their eating. It can help reduce the stress of making choices and can create order.
Another awesome part of the program is my weekly consultant meeting. This is awesome for me as it’s a weekly status check. This one-on-one personal support is priceless. I talk my consultant about a ton – How the week went, any challenges or happy surprises, which foods I liked and which I didn’t. Consultants create a personalized plan for each member because everyone is different. Consultants help members with education on portion control and strategies for behavior change to help drive weight loss and health improvement. Each consultant works with members to identify their strengths, challenges and personal goals in order to create unique weekly meal and activity plans that fit their needs. Weights are taken, stories are shared, and strategies are planned. It’s a very complete, unparalleled, and gratifying support environment meant to encourage and keep me on track. After the talk, I pick up my food for the week. It’s easy and takes about 15-20 minutes each week.
Remember men, this is a great program for you, too. Don’t be shy! You’re going to get into awesome shape with Jenny Craig. I can feel it.
Oh yeah…I’m doing it with my wife, Vera, too. Perfect!! I’ll keep you posted on my experience and progress over the next few months. Best of luck to you if you want to try it out for yourself! I think if you give it a shot, you’re going to like it and really see results like me*.

Keep up the good work! Jenny Craig is a great program. I have a friend who’s been on it for a while now, and she’s lost at on of weight!
You are killing it, babe! My man is getting lean and mean. Well, not mean. Definitely lean, though!
I’ve never tried Jenny Craig before, but the food looks pretty amazing! I want to get in shape before our summer road trip in July!
I have lost track of how many reviews I’ve read about Jenny Craig diet. It looks like everyone who tried it raved about it and achieved their health and weight loss goals. I will recommend this to my daughter. She still has a lot of that excess weight she put on during her last pregnancy.
I’ve seen so many diet programs that fail to work regardless of the person who’s following it. I think Jenny Craig remains to be one of those are amazing. I love that the program doesn’t starve you to death but rather give you a lot of healthy low calorie options.
I am happy JC is still around. And its even more awesome you will be doing this with your wife!
