David Beckham is one of my wife’s favorite celebs. He’s an ultra good-looking, fit, superstar footballer that married a beautiful pop star (Victoria “Posh Spice”) and seems to be a good dad to 4 kids with very, , uh, unique celebrity kid names. (Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper Seven). He’s someone to envy for sure, so I thought it was interesting that the April 2016 issue of GQ is the first time he’s ever been on the cover? Has he been too busy? Was GQ asleep? Who knows, but there it is. Figures the guy is still jonesing to play some soccer…wouldn’t you?

In his first-ever cover for GQ, soccer giant David Beckham gives a revealing, deeply personal interview to correspondent Michael Paterniti. The 40-year-old legend and bona fide style icon discussed his life at home with wife Victoria and their four children—and how his outlook on family has changed through the years. “I’m secure as a person, as a husband, as a dad. I’ve gone past the point of really worrying, caring,” he says of the relentless tabloids detailing every aspect of his life.

After a few years of retirement, Becks is still a busy man—struggling, even, to balance his work and home life alongside that of his fashion-exec wife. “I get physically ill when I have to leave the kids now,” he says. When he’s not out and about, he says, you can find him watching Frozen with his daughter Harper for the hundredth time or binging on Friends reruns.

But despite all the domestic bliss-ing out, Beckham can’t help but think of returning to the pitch. “I miss soccer everyday,” he says. “I don’t know whether it’s the athlete in me, or the passion I have for the game: I always think that I can step back on the field and play . . .” He continues: “You know, maybe I could play another year in the U.S. If I was still living in L.A., I’d probably really seriously think about coming back for a year. But we’re living in London, and the kids are happy in the school . . . .”
