With so many weight loss programs and tips on how to lose weight it’s no wonder many people feel bombarded with information and have no idea where to start. I recently wrote about Jenny Craig and truly think that program is a great way to lose weight and get healthy. With that being said, one of the key factors in using a program like that is to learn portion control. I wanted to share a few portion control tips to lose weight so that you can work towards being happier and healthier.
Don’t Skip Meals
Skipping meals is probably the biggest issue many have when it comes to portion control. It seems we think of size for each meal but neglect to realize that skipping meals is actually a portion control issue. The key to ensuring you don’t skip meals is to have breakfast, lunch and dinner at the same time every day. Learn to walk away from whatever you are doing to enjoy a portion controlled, healthy option for each meal.
Have a Healthy Snack
Invest some cash into healthy snacking options that will keep you fuller for longer. The most difficult area to be in control with portions is more than likely snacking. While you can snack in between meals, consider having apples or avocados as they are healthy ways to feel full in between meals. Snacks like almonds and other nuts are also good sources of nutrients that will leave your belly thinking it’s full in between meals.
Weigh and Measure Food
Alright so this isn’t a super easy way to start being aware of proper portion sizes, but it will pay off in the long run. Consider investing in a kitchen scale that allows you to measure out the right portions for every meal you eat. You could even prepare your breakfast, lunch and dinner head of time sealed up in baggies that are already measured out for you to grab, eat and go. Think about it, most of us really don’t know what a proper portion size looks like.
Sure it’s going to be an uphill battle and it will take time, but you can truly learn how to use portion control to lose weight without making drastic changes to your dietary desires. With fast food restaurants showing us super-sized meals, our eyes can’t be trusted alone to implement portion control, use each of these tips I shared today to get back on track with portion control so that you can feel healthier soon.
This has been working for me in a big way. 32 pounds down and counting, baby!!! What are some ways you have used portion control to lose weight?
